Rama: Human Capital Is Key to Albania’s Economic Success in the Next Decade

Edi Rama highlights the importance of vocational education and human capital as key drivers of Albania’s economic development over the next decade.

He opens the latest episode of the podcast “Flasim” and stresses that a strong workforce determines much of the country’s future economic success.

First, he explains that Albania no longer faces a lack of investment. Instead, he says the country now experiences growing inflows of investment across multiple sectors. As a result, the economy increasingly depends on skilled professionals, technicians, and qualified workers.

In addition, he points out that demand for skilled labor is rising much faster than supply. Therefore, he argues that vocational education plays a strategic role in closing this gap.

Moreover, he emphasizes that modern industries require trained human capital. These sectors include high-level tourism, energy, technology, manufacturing, logistics, and other contemporary services.

He also underlines that vocational education is no longer a secondary option. On the contrary, he says it has become a main pathway that leads directly to employment and career development.

Furthermore, he provides data showing strong outcomes for vocational graduates. He notes that 67% of vocational school graduates find immediate employment. In some sectors, such as tourism, he states that employment reaches 100%.

As a result, he says vocational education has become a direct bridge to the labor market.

Finally, he sets a clear national objective. He says the government aims to strengthen vocational education as an equal pillar alongside traditional academic studies. In addition, he stresses that this system will help investors access a more qualified workforce and support long-term economic growth.
