TIRANA, August 19 – Opportunities to strengthen relations between Albania and Kazakhstan were discussed at a meeting at the Kazakh Embassy in Tirana. The talks focused on air links, economic and investment cooperation, tourism and contacts between regions. Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Albania, Iskander Aisariyev, met Albanian media representatives, experts, a representative of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and embassy diplomats.
The meeting followed a briefing on Kazakhstan’s new Constitution and the first elections for the country’s new single-chamber parliament, scheduled for August 23, 2026. Embassy adviser Baurzhan Alzhanov presented the main elements of the constitutional reform. Albanian international law expert Dr. Redion Luli also provided an assessment of the institutional changes. The new Constitution was approved in a March 15 referendum and entered into force on July 1. It replaces the two-chamber parliament with the 145-member Kurultai, which will serve 5-year terms.
Meanwhile, the talks focused particularly on bilateral relations. Ambassador Aisariyev stressed the need for stronger political dialogue and more opportunities for economic and institutional cooperation. Participants discussed improving air links and the possibility of establishing a direct route between the 2 countries. Such a connection could boost tourism, business contacts and travel. However, the proposal requires further study and coordination with the relevant institutions and operators.
The sides also discussed potential joint projects and stronger direct contacts between businesses and investment-support institutions. In addition, Aisariyev highlighted contacts between Albanian regions and local authorities. He said local cooperation could give bilateral relations more concrete substance, particularly in the areas of economy, tourism and culture.
