The Goddess of Butrint, Dea, has returned to the ancient city where archaeologists discovered her. The work stands among Albania’s best-known archaeological treasures.
Prime Minister Edi Rama welcomed Dea’s return and said it adds further value to Albania’s history and cultural heritage.
“Good news about Dea of Butrint returning home and further enriching the treasure of our history and cultural heritage,” Rama said.
Dea’s return also strengthens Butrint’s historical story. Visitors can now see the archaeological work up close and explore an important part of Albania’s history, art and shared European heritage.
Meanwhile, Butrint continues to attract large numbers of visitors. More than 200,000 people have visited the ancient city so far this year.
The growing number of visitors further strengthens Butrint’s position as one of Albania’s leading cultural tourism destinations. Dea’s return also gives visitors a new opportunity to experience the site’s archaeological heritage in the place where the sculpture first came to light.
