TIRANA, May 26 – The 8th Albania-European Union Intergovernmental Conference will take place in Brussels this Tuesday. The meeting will formally open the process for Albania to enter the phase of closing EU accession negotiations.
The Agency for Media and Information said the conference follows a decision by the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the European Union member states. In addition, the committee confirmed that Albania fulfilled the interim benchmarks in the “Fundamentals” cluster.
At the same time, the committee defined the conditions for closing negotiations on Chapter 23, which covers the judiciary and fundamental rights, and Chapter 24, which covers justice, freedom, and security.
Prime Minister Edi Rama will attend the conference together with ministers from the government cabinet.
Meanwhile, the Agency for Media and Information said Albania remains committed to maintaining a steady pace of reforms and fulfilling the criteria for European Union membership within this decade.
According to the agenda, Rama and the delegation will arrive at the Council of Europe at 18:50 GMT. A family photo will follow at 18:55 GMT. The intergovernmental conference will begin at 19:00 GMT, while a press conference is expected around 20:15 GMT after the meeting concludes.
