Albania sends first helicopter contingent to NATO mission in Kosova

Albania is expanding its contribution to NATO operations. For the first time, a helicopter contingent will join the KFOR mission in Kosova. Thirteen members of the Albanian Armed Forces will serve at the US military base of Camp Bondsteel. A farewell ceremony at Farka Air Base marked their departure.

Defence Minister Ermal Nufi said the deployment demonstrated the professionalism of Albanian military personnel. He also highlighted Albania’s commitment to NATO. The mission, he added, reflects the Albanian Air Force’s expanding role. It also strengthens the Armed Forces’ capacity to undertake more demanding tasks within the Alliance.

Nufi stressed the mission’s particular importance for Albania. He pointed to the historical ties between Albania and Kosova. He also underlined the direct link between Kosova’s security and stability and the security of Albania and the wider region. Against this background, he reaffirmed Albania’s firm commitment to KFOR. He also pledged continued cooperation with allies and partners to protect collective security.

Albania’s international contribution extends beyond KFOR, Nufi noted. The country also takes part in operations led by NATO, the European Union and the United Nations. The ceremony brought together Armed Forces Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Arben Kingji, Air Force Commander Brigadier General Voci, other military commanders and officials, and the families of the deployed personnel.
