TIRANA, June 29 – Australian tourist Amy Lecons is in good health after a viper bit her in a remote area of the Albanian Alps, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection said.
Medical teams from the Valbona Summer Health Centre responded immediately after receiving the emergency alert. They provided first aid at the scene and then arranged her transfer to a health facility for further treatment.
Meanwhile, the ministry said health services remain fully prepared to respond even in the most remote mountain areas during the tourist season.
In addition, the ministry credited the professionalism of medical staff, effective coordination, and support from local residents for the successful outcome. As a result, Lecons received the necessary treatment and has now recovered.
The tourist also shared a video on social media describing the incident. She said she contacted the guesthouse after the snake bit her and called for help. Although she did not see the snake, she said she quickly felt very ill.
Later, Lecons said she returned to the guesthouse to continue her recovery after receiving medical treatment.
The ministry said the incident highlights the readiness of health services operating in Albania’s mountain tourist areas to respond quickly to emergencies in difficult terrain.
