Bank of Albania, World Bank step up cooperation on digital payments

Bank of Albania Governor Gent Sejko met with a World Bank delegation to discuss Albania’s economic performance, EU integration and payment-system modernization.

Sejko said the economy continues to perform well, supported by growth, stronger employment and incomes, and financial stability. He also highlighted Albania’s progress toward EU standards. The talks focused on Albania’s membership in SEPA, which has made cross-border euro transfers faster, safer and cheaper.

Sejko said the TIPS Clone project, Albania’s instant payment system, has entered its final implementation phase. The system should go live in November 2026. It will enable real-time payments around the clock, seven days a week, while reducing transaction costs for citizens and businesses.

World Bank representatives praised Albania’s progress and stressed the need to maintain economic and financial stability. Both sides agreed to continue working together to strengthen financial regulation and modernize Albania’s payment infrastructure.
