Borsh Castle restoration completed on Albania’s Riviera

Albanian Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport Blendi Gonxhja announced the completion of restoration work at Borsh Castle, overlooking the Ionian coast on the Albanian Riviera.

The project focused on consolidating the fortifications, preserving the monument’s authenticity and highlighting its historical and architectural features, including the Haxhi Bendo Mosque. The work also improved safety and visitor access.

The castle stands above Borsh village and its coastline. Built in antiquity and rebuilt during the Byzantine and Ottoman periods, it served as a strategic point for controlling trade routes and defending the surrounding area.

Its extensive walls enclose historical ruins, including an Ottoman mosque. The site also offers panoramic views of the Ionian Sea and the Borsh plain.

“Preserving heritage, promoting history,” Gonxhja wrote on social media as he shared images of the restored castle.
