Greek authorities have reduced winter operating hours at Qafëbota, Albania’s southernmost border crossing with Greece. From November 1 to March 31, the crossing operates from 07:00 to 21:00 Greek time, cutting daily service by 4 hours. Greece’s Independent Authority for Public Revenue announced the schedule.
During summer, Qafëbota operates from 05:00 to 23:00 Greek time. Albanian and Greek authorities have repeatedly discussed extending these hours to accommodate growing trade and tourism. Saranda lawmaker Vasil Llajo and Greek counterparts asked Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis to introduce 24-hour service, at least during the tourist season. They presented the request during his visit to Igoumenitsa, but authorities did not introduce round-the-clock service this summer.
Heavy vehicles and scheduled intercity buses travelling outside Qafëbota’s operating hours must use Kakavija, the main border crossing on the Gjirokastër–Ioannina route.
