Charlemagne Prize ceremony in Aachen, Prime Minister Rama invited among group of honour guests

TIRANA, May 13 – Prime Minister Edi Rama will visit Aachen, Germany on May 13–14 as a special guest among around 700 personalities attending the Charlemagne Prize ceremony. Organisers described him as part of the group of honour guests.

Turning to this year’s award, the Charlemagne Prize 2026 will go to former President of the European Central Bank and former Italian Prime Minister Professor Mario Draghi. The jury recognised his role in maintaining stability in the European Monetary Union.

In addition, organisers said the award also carries a broader political message. They said Europe’s future, sovereignty and strength depend on economic resilience and stability.

Meanwhile, organisers confirmed that European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will attend the ceremony in honour of Draghi. They also expect participation from representatives of European institutions, politics, business, academia and diplomacy.

The Charlemagne Prize has been awarded since 1950. It is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most important honours. It has also contributed to establishing Aachen as a symbol of European unity.
