Diaspora engagement key to accelerating Albania’s EU integration

TIRANA, April 14 – State Minister for Public Administration and Anti-Corruption Adea Pirdeni said Albania can accelerate its European Union integration through stronger diaspora engagement. She spoke during a panel at the Diaspora Summit in Tirana.

At the session on international experience in public administration, she stressed the value of cooperation with Albanians abroad. She said their expertise and experience can support progress in EU accession.

Pirdeni noted that Albania and Montenegro currently lead the accession process among candidate countries. She added that Albania’s public administration has shown readiness to respond to integration demands.

At the same time, she acknowledged that significant challenges remain. However, she said joint efforts between institutions and the diaspora can help address them.

She then called for stronger engagement at this stage of the process. She urged cooperation with Albanians abroad who remain connected to developments in the country.

In addition, she said aligning Albania with European standards remains a top priority. She noted that institutions continue daily efforts to meet these requirements.

Addressing young professionals, she invited diaspora experts to contribute to national development. She described the current phase as critical for Albania’s European path.

Within the accession framework, she outlined new institutional measures. The government has appointed two dedicated advisers in each ministry to support negotiations.

According to Pirdeni, these advisers will provide specialised expertise and direct support. Finally, she said contributions from Albanians worldwide remain essential to achieving EU membership goals.
