Prime Minister Edi Rama said Albania has entered the final stage of its European journey. He called it the most important moment in the country’s path toward the European Union.
First, Rama spoke in episode 21 of season six of the podcast FLASIM. He reviewed the main events of the week. Then he focused on Albania’s EU integration and the goal of finishing negotiations by the end of 2027.
He said May 26 marked a historic turning point. Albania closed the phase of opening negotiation chapters. At the same time, it started the phase of closing them.
Next, Rama said Albania has reached its highest point so far in the integration process. He added that full membership now feels closer than ever.
He also called this progress clear proof of years of hard work. According to him, reforms and major changes across the country made this possible.
At the same time, Rama stressed that integration is not only about negotiations. It also means strengthening the rule of law and building stronger democratic institutions.
In addition, he said the European Union has confirmed Albania’s successful progress in justice, the fight against corruption and democratic governance.
Finally, Rama said the last phase will be the most challenging. However, Albania already has an agreed calendar with the European Commission.
The government aims to close negotiations by the end of 2027. Then Albania plans to use 2028 as a transition period. The final goal is EU membership by 2030.
