Prime Minister Edi Rama today shared images from the 8th Intergovernmental Conference between Albania and the European Union, held in Brussels.
He expressed pride in what he described as an increasingly European Albania.
During the press conference with EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos and Cyprus Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna, Rama emphasized Albania’s strong commitment to the European Union.
“You are young, you do not yet understand the value of love. You should see and learn from Albania’s love for the European Union, a tireless and unconditional love,” Rama said.
He added that Albania opened all negotiation chapters within 11 months and said the country feels energized and encouraged, but also more responsible.
“Having the European Union on your side is a guarantee. We will become members of this family within this decade. I am very, very confident that Marta will not give up,” he said.
EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos stated that this is a moment to celebrate but also to intensify work. She said the EU will continue supporting Albania’s efforts to close negotiations by 2027.
She also praised Albania’s government, institutions, and citizens for their commitment to difficult reforms and their clear dedication to a shared European future.
Cyprus Deputy Minister Marilena Raouna said the EU accession process remains demanding but worthwhile. She stressed Albania’s strong commitment to reforms and to a European future.
The intergovernmental conference followed a decision by the Committee of Permanent Representatives of EU Member States (COREPER), which confirmed the fulfillment of interim benchmarks in the “Fundamentals” cluster. It also set conditions for closing negotiations on Chapter 23, “Judiciary and Fundamental Rights,” and Chapter 24, “Justice, Freedom and Security.”
