Exhibition “Albania 1921 – Eugène Pittard” opens in Durrës

The photographic exhibition “Albania 1921 – Eugène Pittard” has opened in Durrës. It presents rare images of Albania from the early 20th century.

The opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Speaker of Parliament Klodiana Spahiu and Swiss Ambassador Ruth Huber.

The exhibition is a joint project between the Swiss Embassy in Tirana and FotoKlub Durrës.

Moreover, it showcases a visual journey through photographs taken by Swiss academic and anthropologist Eugène Pittard and his wife Hélène Pittard.

Between 1921 and 1924, the Pittards traveled across Albania. They documented daily life, cities, villages, landscapes and traditions.

In addition, the exhibition highlights authentic historical evidence of Albanian identity preserved through photography.

Furthermore, organizers said the collection has strong historical and cultural value.

Finally, Spahiu praised the initiative as an important contribution to preserving historical memory and cultural heritage.
