TIRANA, June 8 – A traditional stone coffee preparation ritual has become an attraction for tourists visiting Gjirokastër, where visitors now experience a local hospitality practice in the city’s historic bazaar.
Artisan Lubjana Baho has set up a hospitality corner in one of the cobbled streets. Meanwhile, she introduces visitors to the tradition and demonstrates key steps of the ritual. These include roasting coffee in a traditional qebap and then grinding it on stone.
She said the initiative aims to welcome guests from abroad through a local tradition. She also said the practice is not only about tasting coffee but about the way guests are received and hosted.
At the same time, visitors described the experience as a combination of cultural traditions and local flavours. One visitor said the ritual connects different regional experiences and highlights two distinct coffee traditions.
As a result, the hospitality corner allows visitors to experience the stone coffee ritual up close. The practice remains part of a heritage passed down through generations in Gjirokastër families.
