The urban restoration project in the historic center of Pogradec is progressing steadily. It has already reached 80% completion.
First, the project focuses on restoring traditional buildings. It also improves public squares and urban infrastructure. In addition, it creates thematic tourist routes.
Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports Ministria e Turizmit, Kulturës dhe Sportit Minister Blendi Gonxhja inspected the works together with Pogradec Mayor Ilir Xhakolli.
Gonxhja said the project gives the city a new development dimension. He explained that it is not only a spatial intervention. It is also an investment in cultural heritage, tourism, and the local economy.
Furthermore, he confirmed that the project will be completed in October 2026. He said the city will offer more opportunities for residents, businesses, and visitors.
In addition, he highlighted the “Urban Renaissance 2.0” program. He said it will focus on revitalization, small local museums, and storytelling of city history.
Meanwhile, Mayor Ilir Xhakolli said the project covers two historic neighborhoods. These are “Naim Frashëri” and “Lagjja e Burimeve.” He explained that these areas represent the origin of the city.
He also said construction is in its final phase. He added that only three to four months remain until completion.
Finally, he noted strong public support. He said residents welcome the project. He said the neighborhood is already “coming back to life.”
Overall, the investment aims to turn the area into a major tourism hub while preserving its historic architecture and cobblestone streets.
