Shkodra’s Old Bazaar, one of the city’s historic landmarks, will soon return to life through virtual reality (VR). The project will recreate the 19th-century bazaar. In addition, it will create a new tourist attraction for Shkodra.
Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports Blendi Gonxhja announced the project on Wednesday. According to Gonxhja, the experience will use historical photographs and materials from the archives of the Marubi Museum.
“Soon, Shkodra’s Old Bazaar will return to life through Virtual Reality. ‘Old Bazaar of Shkodra’ is a VR experience that recreates the 19th-century bazaar based on photographs and historical materials from the Marubi Museum archives,” Gonxhja said.
Furthermore, the project will combine 3D modeling with architecture, characters, sounds, and other details from the period. As a result, visitors will experience the bazaar in a more immersive way.
They will not simply look at history. Instead, they will have the opportunity to step inside it and experience its atmosphere.
“A lost bazaar will soon return to Shkodra in a completely new way,” Gonxhja said while sharing images from the VR experience.
Meanwhile, the project brings together Albanian and French institutions. The French Institute of Albania and the Embassy of France in Albania are supporting the initiative.
In addition, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports, the National Museum of Photography “Marubi,” and Consulting and Development Partners (CODE Partners) are also involved.
Moreover, the initiative connects modern technology with cultural heritage. In this way, it will help preserve the memory of Shkodra’s historic bazaar while presenting it to visitors through a modern digital experience.
At the same time, the project aims to promote Shkodra’s cultural heritage and strengthen the city’s tourism appeal.
Therefore, the Old Bazaar will offer visitors a new way to discover the city’s history. Instead of viewing the past only through photographs, they will be able to experience a digital reconstruction of one of Shkodra’s most important historic spaces.
