Berat’s rich historical and cultural heritage continues to attract more visitors. The city of a thousand windows remains one of Albania’s leading cultural tourism destinations.
Data from the first seven months of 2026 show growing interest in the “Onufri” Iconographic Museum and the Ethnographic Museum.
Miklor Pasku, director of the Berat Museum Center, told ATA that the “Onufri” Museum welcomed 58,912 visitors from January to July. The museum received 50,615 visitors during the same period in 2025.
May recorded the highest monthly figure, with more than 17,000 visitors. Visitor numbers also remained high in June and July.
The number of visitors to the “Onufri” Museum increased by 16% compared with the first seven months of 2025. Polish, French, Spanish, Italian, German and Dutch tourists made up the largest groups of foreign visitors.
Ticket revenues also increased during the period. They reached 14.78 million lekë, marking a 20% rise compared with 2025.
The Ethnographic Museum also attracted strong interest in June and July.
“Since reopening in June, the Ethnographic Museum has welcomed more than 3,000 visitors. More than 80% have been foreign tourists from all continents,” Pasku said.
Berat is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its monuments, museums and history continue to strengthen its position as a major cultural tourism destination.
“The rise in visitor numbers and revenues shows the growing interest in Berat’s heritage. It also highlights the potential of cultural tourism to support the city’s economic development,” Pasku said.
The city’s museums remain key stops for visitors. They also help promote and preserve Berat’s historical and cultural heritage.
The Ethnographic Museum is becoming one of the city’s most popular attractions. Located in the historic Mangalem district, it presents Berat’s life, culture, economy and traditions over the past two centuries.
Following its latest renovation, the museum now displays more than 1,300 artifacts.
