Albania and North Macedonia signed a new agreement to simplify border crossings. The deal introduces a one-stop border control system. It will make travel easier for citizens, businesses, and tourists.
Interior Minister Besfort Lamallari announced the agreement after meeting his North Macedonian counterpart, Panče Toškovski, in Dibër.
Meanwhile, Lamallari said the Arbër Road is already bringing benefits. It has improved access to the Blata border crossing and increased travel between the two countries.
Currently, about 4,600 people cross at Blata every day. During the first five months of 2026, nearly 700,000 travelers and about 300,000 vehicles used the crossing.
Furthermore, Lamallari said the one-stop system will be introduced at all four border crossings between Albania and North Macedonia. As a result, border checks will become faster and more efficient.
He added that faster border crossings support the economy, strengthen tourism, and make family travel easier. At the same time, closer cooperation between the two countries will improve security and support their shared European future.
