MEPJ issues verbal note to Russia over attack on residence of Albanian ambassador

The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs summoned the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Tirana, Alexey Zaitsev, to deliver a strong protest.

The ministry responded to massive drone and missile attacks overnight in Ukraine. It said the attacks hit the residential complex where the Ambassador of the Republic of Albania in Ukraine resides.

Spokesperson Alteo Hysi said the attack seriously endangered the safety and life of the Albanian ambassador. The ministry described the incident as unacceptable.

It said the attack violates the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and other international obligations. It stressed that diplomatic staff must remain protected under all circumstances.

The ministry handed a verbal note to the Russian ambassador. It demanded that Russia respect international norms. It also asked him to relay Albania’s position to his government.
