Prime Minister Rama clarifies Albanian Digital Solutions role, says competences split with National Agency for Information Society

TIRANA, June 1 – Prime Minister Edi Rama said the public company “Albanian Digital Solutions” (ADS), presented last week, marks a new phase in Albania’s digital transformation.

He said the initiative builds on the digitisation of more than 1,200 public services through the e-Albania platform. He added that the system has already changed how citizens access public administration services.

Meanwhile, Rama said ADS will operate as a centre of excellence for Albanian technology talent. He said the company will develop and maintain digital solutions for public services and support innovation in governance.

In addition, he referred to growing interest in innovation programmes. More than 1,100 applications were submitted to the latest “Startup Albania” grant cycle. He said the figures show a strengthening innovation ecosystem.

However, he said innovation must expand beyond the public sector. He stressed that private-sector technological development remains a key challenge.

At the same time, Rama clarified the division of responsibilities between ADS and the National Agency for Information Society. He said the agency will focus on regulation and quality monitoring, while ADS will handle development and system maintenance.

As a result, he said the restructuring aims to speed up e-government development and strengthen domestic technological capacity.
