Prime Minister Rama meets Italian Prime Minister Meloni in Rome, highlights strategic cooperation and major joint projects

TIRANA, April 16 – Prime Minister Edi Rama met Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at the Chigi Palace in Rome on Thursday. The visit focused on bilateral cooperation and ongoing strategic projects between Albania and Italy.

PM Rama posted a statement on social media after the meeting. He said Italian governments over the past 35 years have supported Albania. He added that the current Italian government has launched the most intensive programme of strategic cooperation so far. He described it as a driver of development and security for Albania.

Officials from the Prime Minister’s Office confirmed further meetings in Rome. Rama will meet Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto during the visit. The programme follows the Italy–Albania intergovernmental summit held in November 2025. That summit produced 16 cooperation agreements.

Rama will travel to Barcelona after the Rome programme. He will attend the fourth “In Defence of Democracy” summit at the invitation of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. He will also hold bilateral meetings with Sánchez and European Council President Antonio Costa.
