TIRANA, August 19 – International business and economics publication Quartz has highlighted Tirana as one of Europe’s most affordable capitals to visit in 2026. The article estimates the cost of a full day in the city at around 60 euros, about one quarter of the cost of a comparable day in central Barcelona.
According to Quartz, this affordability comes alongside Tirana’s transformation over the past 2 decades. The city has given bright colours to communist-era apartment blocks and converted Cold War bunkers into museums, including Bunk’Art 1 and Bunk’Art 2. The National Historical Museum and National Gallery of Arts also offer visitors lower admission prices than those common in Western Europe.
Meanwhile, Blloku, once reserved for Communist Party officials, has become Tirana’s main concentration of bars, cafes and restaurants. The area now attracts a mainly local young crowd. Meals and local beer also remain relatively inexpensive by Western European standards.
In addition, low-cost air connections have expanded rapidly, led by carriers including Wizz Air. Mount Dajti offers hiking and mountain views around 25 kilometres from the city centre, while the Albanian Riviera lies within a few hours by bus.
As a result, Quartz describes Tirana as one of Europe’s fastest-growing budget destinations for 2026. The publication attributes its appeal to low prices, walkability and a distinctive urban character.
