The Embassy of Albania in Bern organized a commemorative evening at the “Kornhausbibliothek” library dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the birth of poet and writer Dritëro Agolli.
The event brought together Albanian students, teachers, and friends of Albanian culture in Switzerland. Participants experienced an artistic journey through the life and work of one of the most emblematic figures of Albanian letters.
Ermal Dredha praised Agolli as a writer who elevated the everyday human experience into high art. He also said that Agolli’s poetry and prose remain part of Albania’s collective memory.
Furthermore, the ambassador emphasized that Agolli’s works continue to resonate today because they reflect universal values. These include human dignity, love, homeland, and the relationship between people and their time.
The evening featured recitations by Albanian school students in Switzerland. It also included musical performances by singer Mimoza Nazarko and the students themselves. Organizers also presented rare film footage from Agolli’s life and original recordings of the writer’s voice.
In addition, the embassy thanked Brikela Andera and the “Kornhausbibliothek” in Bern for their cooperation, as well as the “Kadare–Agolli” Museum for providing manuscripts, sketches, and creative materials.
Finally, the embassy announced that it will continue cultural events under the “Year of Agolli and Kadare.” The next event will take place in Geneva this autumn and will be dedicated to writer Ismail Kadare.
