TIRANA, Nov. 7 /ATA/ – Students staged another protest outside the Ministry of Education on Saturday, with the gathering beginning at around 2 p.m.
The students assembled to voice their demands and positions as part of demonstrations that have continued for several weeks. They have vowed to maintain their protests despite Prime Minister Edi Rama’s calls for dialogue. University lecturers have also expressed support for the students.
Today’s demonstration comes a week after last Saturday’s protest, when students rejected attempts by representatives and supporters of the main opposition Democratic Party to join their rally.
Meanwhile, opposition supporters who had gathered outside the prime minister’s office began marching towards the Education Ministry, where the students’ protest had been announced.
The Democratic Party rally was called by its leader, Sali Berisha, who urged party supporters and citizens, regardless of their political affiliations, to back the students and high school pupils who have been protesting for days.
State Police deployed around 1,200 officers under a security plan to maintain public order and safety in the capital during the two demonstrations.
