The 21st International Human Rights Film Festival opens in Tirana on September 14 and runs through September 19. The Academy of Film and Multimedia “Marubi” organises the festival.
This year’s programme focuses on war, peace, the rule of law and the memory of victims. Over six days, the festival will screen films about current conflicts, archival memories and the experiences of victims and missing people.
Meanwhile, the programme explores the role of the media, journalism and propaganda. It also examines the role of police in maintaining order during protests and in democratic societies. Films also address strategic interests involving Russia, NATO and China, as well as changing relations between Europe and the United States.
The festival will also feature films on artificial intelligence and its potential impact on society and human relations. The Kosova war will feature through Blerta Basholli’s film “Dua”, scheduled for September 18 at 19:30.
The opening film, “SUNDAYS”, will screen on Monday at 19:00. The Spain-France production was released in 2025 and lasts 117 minutes. It won four Goya Awards. In the following days, screenings will take place at the Marubi Academy, the School of Magistrates, the Security Academy and the Authority for Information on Former State Security Files.
