TIRANA, May 11 – Tirana International Airport continued strong growth in 2026, confirming its position as one of the fastest-expanding airports in the region.
Airport management data shows around 3.3 million passengers handled in the first four months of the year. This figure marks a 10.4% increase compared to the same period in 2025. At the same time, aircraft movements reached 19,500, reflecting a 5.4% rise.
April delivered the strongest performance for the period. The airport handled 1.13 million passengers and nearly 7,000 flights. This increase reflected higher tourism demand and stronger air connectivity to Albania. On peak days, operations reached up to 43,000 passengers and 250 aircraft movements.
Meanwhile, the data confirms Albania’s growing role as a regional air transport hub. If current trends continue, the airport projects 13.3 million passengers by the end of the year, with potential entry into Europe’s 50 busiest airports.
At the same time, rapid growth brings operational pressure. Infrastructure capacity, traffic management and service quality remain key challenges ahead of the summer season.
The airport said it continues to expand check-in counters, security lanes and boarding gates. It added that ongoing investments aim to keep pace with rising demand.
