The high influx of tourists over the years has created a growing need for additional accommodation facilities in order to meet the continuously increasing demand during the summer season.

The head of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Durrës, Neritan Golja, confirmed that this year there has been an increase of 8 to 10 percent in accommodation capacity compared to the previous season.

“Durrës this season is showing a much better tourism performance than in previous years. We can proudly say that Durrës is taking on the status of the tourism capital. In percentage terms, we can say there is an average increase of 8–10% in bed capacity. The growth is not small; it is significant and valuable. In Durrës, it is not only hotels, but also many businesses managed as family-run operations, including a continuously growing number of apartments,” said Neritan Golja.

According to tourism operators, Durrës is showing stronger tourism performance than in previous years, while the increase in accommodation capacity is considered important for handling the tourist influx during the summer months.

The head of the Association of Accommodation Structures in Durrës, Blerim Norja, stated that alongside traditional tourists from Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary, this year there is also increased interest from Western markets such as France and England.

“The tourist season has officially started. This year we have several new markets. For years we have welcomed Polish, Czech, Slovak, and Hungarian tourists. This year, we are seeing a major new trend with French and British tourists. In the city of Durrës, accommodation structures increase every year. This year, 10 new active structures, both small and large, have been added. Demand is higher, but the Durrës coastline is expanding from the areas of Qerret, Spille, and Karpen to build new hotels and resorts,” Golja added.

With the growing number of accommodation facilities and the expansion of the tourist map to include new European countries, Durrës aims to maintain its leading role in the country’s tourism sector this season as well.
