Esat Reçi spent years working in Greece. Then, he returned to his hometown in Kurbin. Before, he worked in construction. Now, he invests in agritourism. He turned his grandparents’ house into a guesthouse. Today, it attracts both local and foreign visitors.
“Lahuta e Vjetër” sits among green hills. Moreover, it combines traditional architecture with authentic Albanian cuisine. Thus, tourists enjoy nature, culture, and local flavors.
Reçi explains his choice. “I wanted the lifestyle and potential my country offers. Here, I have everything: nature, tradition, and a chance to build something real,” he says.
First, he studied successful agritourism models in Tuscany, Italy. Next, he planted vineyards and created a winery for wine and raki. Then, he added accommodation and a restaurant. Now, the farm links agriculture with tourism.
Visitors take part in daily activities. They collect produce, care for animals, and explore the surroundings. They taste traditional dishes like flija and homemade cheese. Additionally, the guesthouse welcomes families and groups seeking peace and authenticity.
Reçi faced challenges. Funding and infrastructure were difficult. However, government grants and soft loans helped him succeed. Social media brought attention. Consequently, tourists arrived from Europe, the US, and Israel. Many returned for the unique experience.
Reçi says, “Lahuta e Vjetër is the first agritourism in Kurbin. I was an emigrant. Therefore, I returned to work in my homeland. Stop working abroad. Work here. Albania offers everything.”
Meanwhile, the farm grows. Reçi builds a livestock complex. He buys honey, eggs, and dairy from local farmers. As a result, the rural economy benefits.
Reçi’s story is not unique. Indeed, many Albanian families embrace agritourism. It creates jobs, increases income, and revives rural life. Policies since 2018 support this growth.
In conclusion, returning home is more than investment. It is a lifestyle. Reçi builds something authentic for his family and community. His story shows that returning to roots creates a sustainable future.
