Tourists from around the world flock to Kruja, historic town praised for hospitality and culture

TIRANA, April 8 – Kruja, a town known for its history, scenic landscapes, and welcoming residents, attracts tourists year-round. Visitors explore its winding streets, artisan shops, and traditional cuisine, creating experiences that keep them returning.

The town’s centerpiece, Skanderbeg Castle, sits amid modern neighborhoods and well-maintained streets. This mix of heritage and development allows visitors to see both historical landmarks and daily life. Tourists often highlight the town’s panoramas and the stories behind the castle and museum, which bring Albania’s past to life.

Spring enhances Kruja’s appeal, with clear skies and sunny weather inviting exploration. Travelers move from the castle to the Old Bazaar and the Ethnographic Museum, guided by experts who explain the history of local crafts and traditions. Groups from Spain, the United States, and other countries photograph landmarks and learn about the town’s culture, connecting past and present.

Tourism is also growing steadily, according to Mehdi Hafizi, director of the Kruja Museum. He said daily visitor flows now peak during spring and autumn. “In the first quarter of 2026, Kruja welcomed over 16,000 tourists. Numbers will rise throughout the year. The town remains a year-round destination,” he explained. Hafizi added that Kruja’s location near Tirana, the international airport, and nearby coastal towns contributes to its popularity.

Visitors now include students from Albania and abroad, as well as tourists from Poland, Italy, France, the United States, and Hungary. Many praise the town’s hospitality and cuisine. Marck Arady from Hungary said, “The town is beautiful, people are welcoming, and we will return.” Joanna Allen from the United States added, “I am impressed by Kruja’s culture, history, and food.”

Visits often end at local eateries, where tourists enjoy traditional dishes from grilled meat to pastries. By combining history, culture, and hospitality, Kruja continues to establish itself as a must-visit destination.
