TIRANA, April 8 – Albania has put its 2026 agricultural support scheme into force. Authorities will publish detailed guidelines soon. These will set criteria and open applications for farmers.
The programme is backed by a €52m fund. It introduces key changes to widen access and increase support in priority sectors. As a result, more farmers are expected to benefit.
One major change targets livestock and beekeeping. Authorities have increased per-head funding and lowered minimum herd thresholds. This shift will include more farmers than in previous years. At the same time, the fuel scheme has been restructured. Instead of direct support, farmers will receive a 10% reimbursement on invoices for agricultural inputs.
In addition, the scheme provides direct payments for livestock and beekeeping. It also introduces support for pig farming through funding for registered breeding sows. Farmers will also receive €100 per hectare for cultivated land.
Another measure supports biological pest control in vegetables. The scheme will cover a significant share of costs for biological materials. Meanwhile, support continues for organic farms and certification under international standards.
On investment, authorities have allocated about 2.5 billion Lek. The fund will support farm development, including grants of up to €10,000 for young farmers. It will also finance infrastructure and subsidise machinery and equipment.
If applications exceed the available budget, authorities will distribute funds proportionally. The scheme targets individual farmers, businesses, and agricultural cooperatives. Overall, it aims to boost domestic production, increase competitiveness, and raise incomes in rural areas.
