TIRANA, April 9 – Prime Minister Edi Rama said the construction sector plays a key role in Albania’s economic and social transformation. He made the remarks during a meeting with business representatives on wage growth, alongside Economy and Innovation Minister Delina Ibrahimaj.
Rama rejected claims that link the sector to money laundering. He said critics fail to recognize Albania’s progress. He stressed that people live in newly built apartments and that the sector supports economic growth.
He pointed to rising foreign investment as evidence. Albania attracted 300–400 million euros in the past, he said. The country now receives over 1.5 billion euros per year. He added that foreign buyers continue to invest in Albanian real estate.
Rama said construction projects create confidence and attract further investment. He linked this trend to Albania’s European Union path, which he said encourages housing, business activity, and social development.
He described the sector as proof of national ambition. He noted that gross domestic product rose from under 10 billion euros to 27 billion euros. He added that income per capita increased from less than 3,000 euros to over 11,000 euros and will continue to grow.
