Starting tomorrow, the public transport bus fleet will be reduced to 40% of its full capacity.
The decision was announced by the National Association of Urban Transport and the Association of Urban and Interurban Transport. According to them, the measure comes as a result of rising fuel prices and the lack of response from responsible institutions to support the public transport sector.
In a statement, the associations informed citizens that despite ongoing concerns raised for weeks and a meeting held on April 1, 2026, with relevant institutions, no concrete support measures have been taken so far.
They outlined several key issues:
- No compensation scheme has been approved to offset the increase in fuel prices, despite repeated requests from operators;
- There is no official decision or action plan to ease the financial burden on the sector;
- No clear timeline has been provided for intervention by the responsible institutions;
- No process has been initiated to review fiscal elements that directly impact operating costs, such as excise taxes, circulation tax, and VAT.
According to the statement, this lack of response and concrete action has significantly worsened the financial situation of operators, who are now facing serious difficulties in maintaining their operations.
As a result, starting tomorrow, the number of vehicles in circulation will be reduced by 40% as a necessary measure to cope with what has been described as an emergency situation.
