Fuel prices capped as diesel set at 207 Lek per litre

TIRANA, April 15 – Albania’s Transparency Board set new maximum fuel prices on Wednesday, with diesel capped at 207 Lek per litre. The decision takes effect at 13:30 local time.

Under the ruling, retail diesel (SSH EN 590 standard) must not exceed 207 Lek per litre. Wholesale diesel stands at a maximum of 195 Lek per litre. Meanwhile, retail petrol is capped at 174 lek per litre, while wholesale petrol reaches 162 Lek per litre.

The decision follows a price adjustment a day earlier, when authorities lowered diesel to 215 Lek per litre. Officials linked the changes to movements in international markets and exchange rate fluctuations. As a result, the latest revision reflects continued volatility in global energy prices.

Authorities said the new caps will remain in force until the next board meeting. At that point, officials will review prices based on market developments. In addition, regulators require all wholesale and retail operators to comply fully with the decision.

Officials warned that violations will trigger strict penalties. Authorities may suspend activity for companies that fail to respect the set price limits. This measure aims to enforce discipline across the fuel market.

In a separate clarification, the board confirmed that the excise level remains unchanged at 100 percent. The current prices stay below the legal thresholds of 220 Lek per litre for diesel and 200 Lek per litre for petrol. Meanwhile, relevant institutions said they will continue monitoring the market to protect consumers and ensure fair competition.
