German-backed projects advance in energy, water and public transport sectors

TIRANA, April 24 – German-supported projects are expanding in Albania across energy, water supply and public transport sectors.

A senior official from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development highlighted ongoing investments in energy infrastructure. She said a newly financed substation in Petrela will strengthen electricity supply for households and businesses in the wider Tirana area.

Energy and water projects remain central to the cooperation framework. She said Albania’s hydro-based system provides relatively low-carbon electricity, while further investment in wind and solar energy will help meet growing demand.

Urban mobility and environmental management also form part of the programme. The official noted efforts to strengthen public transport use in Tirana and improve waste collection systems, including recycling infrastructure and circular economy measures.
