TIRANA, August 17 – Albania’s Infrastructure and Energy Minister Enea Karakaçi visited the Tirana-Durrës motorway, where workers are carrying out the third phase of its expansion. After opening the first 6 kilometres, crews now focus on the section from the Rinas overpass towards Limuth.
Workers are widening the road, while retaining wall construction has been completed. Karakaçi visited the site together with Albanian Road Authority Director Ami Kozeli. The project has reached about 26% completion.
Kozeli said the current phase will expand the motorway to 3 lanes plus an emergency lane. It also includes the Laknas grade-separated junction and a new 94-metre metal overpass at Kashar.
Meanwhile, Karakaçi said the first 6 kilometres have eased traffic by providing 3 lanes up to the Rinas overpass. He said authorities aim to complete the current phase as quickly as possible and improve traffic flow towards Limuth.
The minister also called for solutions to concerns raised by local residents and businesses, particularly regarding access to the motorway. Authorities have addressed residents’ concerns about pedestrian overpasses along the first 6 kilometres, with Karakaçi calling for priority to be given to these connections at the Rinas junction.
