The European Film Academy has included the Kinostudio “Shqipëria e Re” building in the list of Treasures of European Film Culture.
The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport announced the decision and highlighted its importance for Albania. It said the recognition places Albania among Europe’s key film heritage destinations. It also stated that the award acknowledges the historic role of Kinostudio in shaping national cinema.
Kinostudio “Shqipëria e Re” has served as the heart of Albanian film production since 1952. It has produced many films that have shaped the country’s cultural identity.
Architects designed the building in a neoclassical style, and Albanian specialists constructed it in the early 1950s. The complex continues to stand as an important cultural landmark.
Filmmakers produced the first Albanian feature film, “Skënderbeu” (1953), at Kinostudio in cooperation with the Soviet Union. The film later won international recognition at the Cannes Film Festival in 1954.
Kinostudio reached its peak production during the 1970s and 1980s, when it produced dozens of films annually. The Ministry said the new recognition will support further development of Albania’s film industry.
