Deputy Prime Minister Albana Koçiu warned on Sunday that violence fueled by media coverage and longstanding political resentment poses a serious threat to the lives of both protesters and citizens.
In a social media post, Koçiu described the injury of a young man from Elbasan as a wake-up call about the potentially devastating consequences of violence at protests. She also condemned attempts to use the incident for propaganda or to justify further confrontation. Meanwhile, she said the Albanian government had made every effort to ensure the young man received treatment at a hospital in Italy and arranged his transfer by medical aircraft.
Koçiu added that the time was running out for those seeking to destroy what the country had worked hard to build. “Albania’s light today is far brighter than their darkness,” she said.
