Kurti Warns: If No Agreement Is Reached on the President, There Will Be Consecutive Elections

Prime Minister Albin Kurti warned on Wednesday that Kosovo will be forced to hold “consecutive” parliamentary elections if political parties fail to reach agreement on electing the country’s president, with less than a week remaining before the constitutional deadline expires.

Kurti, who is also the leader of the ruling party Lëvizja Vetëvendosje, told journalists that new elections would also cost the country tens of millions of euros.

“If we go to new elections, we will have no solution, since we would again have to go to new elections, and after those, again to new elections. I do not know how we can secure 80 votes, therefore it is necessary for us to reach an agreement,” Kurti said after an event marking the inauguration of the Cardiology Clinic in Prishtina.
