PM Rama tells Greek ‘Kathimerini’ nationalism reflects lack of maturity, addresses ties with Greece

TIRANA, April 20 – Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said nationalism often reflects a lack of maturity in an interview with Kathimerini ahead of his visit to Greece for the Delphi Economic Forum.

Rama discussed bilateral relations with Greece, including property issues in the southern coastal region of Himara. He said earlier remarks about Greek origins were intended as humor but were amplified by nationalist reactions.

On the economy, Rama said Albania has expanded foreign investment and maintained annual growth of around 4%. He added that tourism has increased significantly and helped reshape the country’s international image.

Addressing concerns over the informal economy and rule of law, Rama said reforms continue to strengthen institutions and improve tax collection. He also pointed to digitalisation and new technologies as tools to support economic formalisation and public services.
