Tropoja chestnut festival supports local businesses and exports

Tropoja’s Chestnut Festival brings together growers and processors to promote local production and expand access to foreign markets. Traditional music and performances by the Dardania ensemble mark the start of the event, which continues into the evening.

The festival showcases fresh chestnuts and related products, including honey and traditional dishes made with chestnuts. Local producers highlight the fruit’s distinctive qualities and its long-standing economic importance to the region.

Entrepreneur Albert Çelaj said demand for Tropoja chestnuts had increased in recent years. He noted that producers mainly export them to Italy, France, Hungary and other European countries. Farmer Trashëgim Toska described the area as one of the largest chestnut-growing regions in the Balkans.

In recent years, Tropoja businesses have exported most of their production to European and other international markets. They have also established their own collection and processing facilities.
