Italian ruling party delegation visits migrant facility in Albania, cites 536 cases processed

TIRANA, April 21 – Lawmakers from Italy’s ruling party Fratelli d’Italia visited a migrant facility in Gjadër, northern Albania, to assess its operations. The centre serves as a pre-removal detention site for migrants whose asylum requests Italy has rejected.

The delegation included senior members of the Italian Chamber of Deputies and Senate, including Galeazzo Bignami and Lucio Malan. They spent several hours inside the facility and reviewed operational procedures.

Sara Kelany, the party’s immigration policy lead, said the centre processes migrants under standard procedures. She said authorities have handled 536 cases, with some individuals already returned to their countries.

The group will submit a report to the Italian government following the visit. The facility forms part of bilateral arrangements on migration management between Italy and Albania.
