Rama: Government prepares concrete investment plan for milk control labs

Prime Minister Edi Rama said the government has a concrete investment plan to accredit laboratories that control milk and dairy by-products.

Rama warned that Albania’s milk sector would struggle to meet EU standards if the country were already a member. He said the entire production chain must be guaranteed. He noted that some factories use modern machinery and hold certifications, but the overall chain remains incomplete.

Rama called for an immediate, gradual plan with clear step-by-step actions. He stressed that the state will work together with businesses. He said inspections will not be punitive. Authorities will treat them as a national mission and joint effort.

He added that controls should protect the public interest while supporting businesses that respect the law but need to raise standards.

Rama said laboratory capacities will be strengthened to serve companies better and reduce waiting times for analyses. He also identified border inspection points as another weak area. The government plans investments in laboratory accreditation, improved border control points, and digital infrastructure to modernize the system and ease interaction with businesses.
