Edi Rama: Albania achieved judicial independence as a “lifetime achievement”

Edi Rama said Albania achieved judicial independence and called it a lifetime achievement. He spoke during a discussion with Alexis Papahelas at the Delphi Economic Forum.

Rama said Albanians continue to emigrate. However, he noted that many are also returning. Therefore, he said the gap is narrowing. He added that Albania’s GDP grew from under €10 billion to €27 billion. Meanwhile, tourism increased from 2 million to 12 million visitors. He also said foreign direct investment reached €1.6 billion.

Moreover, Rama reported higher revenues in the first four months of the year. He said the government collected €330 million more than last year. He added that authorities used artificial intelligence and digital tracking to reduce informality.

Then, Rama addressed rule of law reforms. He said improving the rule of law never ends. He also rejected claims that organized crime dominates the country. However, he admitted challenges remain.

Finally, Rama said judicial independence made the biggest difference. He stressed that an independent judiciary actively fights organized crime.
