Prime Minister Edi Rama took part this Sunday in the final of the National Science Festival. Rama awarded the three top prizes of the festival, which were won by the high schools “Zhani Ciko” (Patos), “28 Nëntori” (Shkodër), and “Asim Zeneli” (Gjirokastër).
During his speech, Rama stated that the improvement in the quality of education in Albania is becoming increasingly evident through concrete initiatives, citing the Science Festival as an example.
He thanked all the students for their engagement and emphasized the importance of this event as a first step toward a long and successful path in the field of knowledge and technology.
Among other things, Rama stressed that together with the Minister of Economy and Innovation, they are working to increase funding for startups.
“We have transformed Albania from a country where it was impossible to receive a service without standing in long queues into a country that has become a frontrunner in the region and has stood out in Europe among those that have used technology to provide public services directly from a mobile phone or a home computer, regardless of geographical position, whether within the country or anywhere in the world.
However, on the other hand, we are fully aware that while we have made significant progress in the public sector, we still have a lot to do in the private sector. For this reason, together with the Minister of Economy and Innovation, we are working to significantly increase funding for startups and to expand support for all those who have potential and who may become creators and founders of startups in the future.
So, of course, we will not leave you behind, and regardless of how the competition turns out, we will stand by you, collaborate with your schools, and work directly with you by creating a system that we will also support financially, so that all these projects, which are still at an early stage, can be further developed. At the same time, through developing these projects, you yourselves will enter this endless path of new technology.
I would like to thank the universities for the support they have given to these young men and women. I would also like to thank everyone else involved. I was pleased to see that the German ambassador is also present here, not simply to represent his country, but as a neighbor of the ‘Sami Frashëri’ school, since only one street separates the German embassy from the school. And finally, we even saw a German who cooperates with his neighbor—even though he is expected to be equally distant from everyone, a neighbor is still a neighbor,” he added.
