Justice Minister Gogu meets Austrian counterpart Sporrer, confirms support for EU integration

TIRANA, April 29 – Justice Minister Toni Gogu meets Austria’s Justice Minister Anna Sporrer in Tirana. The talks focus on Albania’s European Union integration process and cooperation in the justice sector.

Gogu says Albania enters a decisive phase in negotiations with the European Union. He adds that the country advances toward the completion of intermediate benchmarks. He also notes that this process will lead to an Intergovernmental Conference and the start of work on closing negotiation chapters.

At the same time, he praises Austria’s consistent support for justice reform in Albania. He says this support translates into concrete programmes that affect citizens directly, including free legal aid, involvement of young law graduates, and stronger civil society participation.

Gogu says the two sides focus on improving access to justice for citizens. He adds that the goal is to make justice faster and more reliable. He also describes the cooperation as an investment in public trust in the justice system.

Meanwhile, he acknowledges that challenges remain in the sector. He highlights the need to improve access to justice, increase efficiency, and strengthen procedural guarantees for citizens.

On her side, Minister Sporrer praises Albania’s reform progress and pace. She confirms Austria’s continued support for Albania’s European Union path. She also says Austria remains proud of its contribution to the International Monitoring Operation and other justice-related initiatives.
