TIRANA, April 30 – Minister of Interior Besfort Lamallari met representatives of 21 civil society organisations (NGOs) selected for funding from a special state fund. The fund comes from assets seized and confiscated from criminal activity.
The programme is managed by the Agency for the Administration of Seized and Confiscated Assets (AAPSK). Risena Xhaja leads the agency. Lamallari said the scheme goes beyond confiscation. It converts criminal assets into social investment for communities.
The 21 projects focus on youth crime prevention, victim reintegration, support for families of fallen officers, and addiction treatment and rehabilitation. Lamallari said the initiative puts into practice the principle that crime-related assets should return to society as social value.
AAPSK (Agency for the Administration of Seized and Confiscated Assets) confirmed that it will open a new funding call next year. The AAPSK and the State Social Service also signed a cooperation agreement. Risena Xhaja and Reme Xholi signed the agreement. The institutions said the agreement will improve targeting and sustainability of social programmes.
