Albania signs agreement to establish Besa Museum in Tirana

TIRANA, April 16 – Albania’s Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport signed an agreement with the Besa Cultural Foundation to establish the Besa [Faith] Museum in Tirana. The deal was signed during the fourth Diaspora Summit and launches a project focused on historical memory and cultural heritage.

The museum will document stories of Albanian families who sheltered and protected Jews during World War II. It will present these accounts through curated exhibitions that highlight the Albanian code of “Besa,” associated with honour, hospitality and protection of guests.

Authorities said the project will be implemented within 36 months. Funding will come entirely from private donations and philanthropic contributions.

Officials expect the museum to strengthen historical and cultural tourism in the capital. The initiative also aims to preserve collective memory and present Albania’s wartime record to international visitors.
