TIRANA, April 27 – Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Fatmir Guri described the cooperation protocol with Germany as an important and concrete step for aligning Albanian agriculture with European Union standards.
He said the timing of the agreement matches Albania’s progress in the EU integration process. He also said the agricultural sector now needs stronger European expertise and assistance to meet upcoming regulatory requirements.
Guri stressed the need for continuous support in capacity building, technical assistance, and preparation for future EU rules. He linked this process to the 2030 horizon, when Albania aims to move closer to EU membership standards.
He said the protocol works as a practical mechanism to support farmers and institutions on the ground. He added that it aims to accelerate integration into the EU single market.
He also said the cooperation focuses on stronger systems and better support for farmers. He described the goal as building a sector ready for EU integration.
Meanwhile, the Albanian and German governments concluded the 2026 Development Cooperation negotiations in Tirana. They signed a new cooperation protocol for 2026–2028.
The framework focuses on three main pillars. The first covers sustainable economic development, education, employment, rural development, and innovation. The second focuses on climate, energy, renewable sources, and sustainable urban development. The third pillar prioritises governance and EU integration, including justice reform, institutional capacity, transparency, and anti-corruption efforts.
