The General Directorate of Archives (DPA) organized a special exhibition in Tirana to mark World Book and Copyright Day. The event showcased rare diaries and original manuscripts of prominent Albanian figures for the first time.
The exhibition took place in the cultural space “Auditor” and brought together officials, writers, critics, and students. Participants included representatives from the National Book and Reading Center, literary critics, and students from different schools in Tirana.
Deputy Director General Marinela Ndria said the archives play an important role in preserving documentary heritage, books, and old codices. She said the DPA regularly organizes exhibitions to bring students closer to archival treasures. She also highlighted how manuscripts reveal the creative process of authors through corrections and revisions.
Arta Marku, Director of the National Book and Reading Center, said archives help researchers follow the development of literary works. She emphasized the value of diaries as personal and revealing documents. She gave examples from the diary of Musine Kokalari, showing how authors often revise their personal writings over time.
Writer and critic Agim Baçi said diaries help readers understand human thoughts, imagination, and survival through literature. He described them as a way to explore truth and human experience.
Shkrimtari Albatros Rexhaj noted that modern literature competes with social media and film, but stressed that diaries reveal how writing evolves over time and how authors develop their craft.
The exhibition displayed original manuscripts from important figures in Albanian literature, culture, and politics. It is part of DPA’s efforts to promote archival work and encourage public access to historical documents.
